GB3AG
The Angus Glens Repeater
echolink node 117931

The Angus Glens repeater is one of many which is maintained by the Central Scotland FM Group (CSFMG). The repeater came into operation in January 1997 due to the efforts of the members of the Strathmore & District Amateur Radio Club and the CSFMG. The repeater is sited in the Sidlaw Hills mid-way between Forfar & Dundee. It provides mobile coverage throughout the County of Angus, as well as N.E. Fife, Dundee and the Eastern edges of Perthshire. Prior to the Angus Glens repeater becoming operational, most of Angus had no mobile repeater coverage at all. Dundee, at best, only had very patchy coverage from a 2m repeater. GB3FF, GB3PR, GB3AG & GB3GN now provide complete coverage from Edinburgh to Aberdeen.

Can you help us with maintenance work / enhancements to GB3AG?
If so, then please drop an email to Pete - GM1CMF  at the email address below.

A little background on the site.
The repeater is located at the
Douglaswood Scout Camp. This centre is owned by the Dundee area Scouts and is their outdoor's activity centre. The Camp was used during WW2 for radar development work and John Logie Baird spent time at this site working on Radar. Within the perimeter of the Scout Camp there are still many buildings dating back to the second World War. Indeed the building which the repeater is located within (and the mast is supported on) is a blast proof shelter from that time (lots of fun for Pete drilling cable access holes thru those walls!). The fields around this area, which are now mostly used for Sheep grazing, have many (almost) hidden examples of pill boxes and underground bunkers to be found within them.

What is the CSFMG?
The
CSFMG is Scotland's oldest established repeater group and was 'born' in 1977. The first repeater to come on the air was GB3CS providing a link along the M8 corridor between Edinburgh & Glasgow.

The CSFMG are now responsible for nine repeaters with another one for Amateur Television in the pipeline. Repeaters are expensive to run - especially nine! We have to pay for the electricity, licence, Insurance, site rental (just to keep them on the air) and then pay the repair bills and invest more money into enhancing the repeaters.

Want to help out? You can join the CSFMG for £9.00 but there are discounted rates available. Why not ask Bob GM7AON for more information? Like any good treasurer, he'll take your money! Give him a call on 01389 763198 or download a membership form here.

The CSFMG publish a member's quarterly magazine ... "FM News". To find out more, you could give our editor, John GM0KTO, a call on 0141 556 6985 or email him.

Did you know there is also a 70cm repeater covering Dundee? Listen for GB3DD on 433.250Mhz (RB10). It's located in the very centre of Dundee. Dave (GM4UGF), the repeater keeper, is the man to contact for more information. Dave runs this repeater out of his own pocket and is not connected with the CSFMG.
